Black Clouds & Silver Linings by Dream Theater



When it comes to truly inscrutable lyrics and bat sh*t crazy orchestration, Dream Theater is king.

The New York based ensemble has come a long way from their meandering 42-minute instrumental epics, and on latest album Black Clouds & Silver Linings become a bit more commercial than one would like, but still manage to maintain most of the over the top theatricality fans have come to admire.

Menacing guitars and haunting pipe organs worthy of a Tim Burton movie open the fiendish “A Nightmare To Remember”.

The rifftastic “Rite of Passage” retreads familiar ground with imagery of angels and spiritual enlightenment, but there is absolutely nothing tranquil about John Petrucci’s vicious guitar assault.
